Pannage Pig - Steel Garden Art Sculpture
Pannage Pig is a story told in steel. Created from solid 5mm steel shaped with sweeping branches, oak leaves and acorns, it celebrates the centuries-old New Forest tradition of the Pannage — the autumn ritual where pigs roam the woods to feast on fallen acorns.
There’s purpose behind the folklore. Acorns can be harmful to ponies and cattle, so the pigs are set loose to clear the forest floor, quietly protecting the other animals whilst fulfilling their nutritional needs. This sculpture captures that gentle balance of nature, culture and craft.
At 800mm wide and 720mm high, it stands beautifully without overwhelming a space. Placed in the garden, it slowly develops a warm, natural patina that settles it into the landscape like it has always belonged there. No maintenance needed, just time and weather doing their quiet work.
Perfect for:
• Garden lovers who appreciate pieces with meaning
• Admirers of English Forest history and woodland stories.
• Anyone wanting a lasting focal point that feels both wild and refined
An elegant nod to tradition, designed to last a lifetime by Roman Beresford.
